You should adjust your recording volume to ensure that the level never reaches 0dB during normal recording. Any audio over this level will be 'clipped', which means that it is distorted, losing audio quality.
When switched on, Voice Activated Recording starts when audio is received, such as when you speak into the microphone, and pauses whenever there is silence.
The level that is needed to start recording. The recording will pause when the level falls 4dB below the it. This is useful because a microphone will often pick up background noise, but this noise should not trigger the voice activation. You should set the Silence Threshold to be slightly higher than the background noise your microphone is picking up.
This will adjust the length of the silence recorded between voice-activated recordings. Recording will continue after you stop speaking for the given duration, before pausing to wait for further input. If you have a low Levels set then you can safely leave this at 0.
When switched on, puts a time limitation when recording.

Recording will automatically stop when the specified time is reached. e.g. if Max. Record Time is set to 10 seconds, recording will stop at 10 seconds.
Automatically creates a new file and starts recording when the Max. Record Time is reached. e.g. if Max. Record Time is set to 10 seconds, recording for the current file will stop. A new file will be created and recording will automatically start. This goes on repeat until you manually stop recording.
When switched on, a short sound tone will play before recording starts.
When switched on, a short sound tone will play after recording ends.
When Safe Record is enabled, you can’t tap anywhere else in the program except Stop when recording to stop recording. If you try to do anything you will just see a bubble tip on the stop button. This is to prevent accidents.
