2 Enter Volume (mg or grams) per Serving of Xylitol
Products containing Xylitol list the volume (in grams or mg's) per serving in two ways:
- 1. As Xylitol only
Use the Xylitol value in Total Carbs. (the value of 0.9 grams or 900mgs of Xylitol per serving in the image below) when entering volume ingested.
- 2. As Sugar Alcohols
Sugar Alcohols include both Xylitol and other related sugar alcohols (e.g. Sorbitol).
If Xylitol is listed first in the ingredients list, use the total Sugar Alcohols volume in your calculation.
If Xylitol is listed second, divide the total Sugar Alcohol volume by 2 for a rough estimate of Xylitol volume (in the image below, 1 gram รท 2 = 500mg of Xylitol per serving)

Xylitol Toxicity
Ingestion of doses > 0.1 g/kg (100 mg/kg) are at risk for developing Hypoglycemia. Ingestion of > 0.5 g/kg (500 mg/kg) may develop acute liver failure with or without Hypoglycemia.
