Express-AM7 is Russia's new heavy telecommunications satellite owned by the Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC), a state-owned satellite operator.

The AM7 satellite is part of the 2006-2015 Federal Space Program and the 2009-2015 Television and Radio Broadcasting Development Program.

Weighing about 5.7 tons, Express-AM7 was manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space, former EADS Astrium, on its Eurostar E3000 satellite platform.

Positioned in geostationary orbit at 40 degrees East, the satellite will beam television and radio broadcasting, fixed and mobile communications, including presidential and governmental packages, high-speed broadband Internet and the like.

Express-AM7 hosts 62 active transponders - 24 in C-band, 36 in Ku-band and two in L-band.

The craft's fixed beams will provide reliable high-quality coverage of Russia (up to the Far East) and neighboring countries, Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and India. The AM7 steerable beams will reach customers in Africa and other developing markets.
