Nimiq 6, a Canadian communications satellite, was launched from Baikonur on 17 May 2012 at 19:12 UT by a Proton-M rocket. The satellite weighed 4500 kg and is equipped with 32 Ku-band transponders and provides coverage to Canadian users. Nimiq 6 is located at 91.1 degrees W longitude where it will join an orbiting fleet. The satellite has a design life of 15 years.
