37834 - INTELSAT 18 (IS-18)

Intelsat 18, a communications satellite, was launched from Baikonur on 05 October 2011 at 21:00 UT. The satellite was launched by a Zenit rocket and weighed 3200 kg. Intelsat 18 is equipped with a communications payload consisting of 24 C-band and 12 Ku-band transponders. It provides a full range of communications services across Asia, Australia, North America and islands in the Pacific Ocean. The satellite is parked at 180 degrees E longitude over the equatorial Pacific. It became operational in November 2011 and replaced Intelsat 701. It has a life expectancy of at least 15 years.
