GALAXY 23 is an American geostationary communications satellite that was launched by a Zenit 3SL rocket from the floating Odyssey platform on the equatorial Pacific at 154 degrees W longitude at 03:31 UT on 8 August 2003. The 4.7 tonne satellite carries 24 C-band, and a few Ku- and Ka- band transponders to provide direct-to-home and cable-fed high definition television programs to all regions of North America after parking over 121 degrees W longitude.
