CUTE 1 is a Japanese (Tokyo Institute of Technology) one-kilogram nanosatellite that was launched by a Rokot rocket from Plesetsk at 14:15 UT on 2003 June 30. It carries a 100-mW beacon at 436.8375 MHz. Initial orbital parameters were period 101.4 min, apogee 831 km, perigee 819 km, and inclination 98.7 degrees.

Launched along with AAU CubeSat, QuakeSat, and CanX-1, CubeSats XI-IV and Cute-I (Tokyo Institute of Technology) were the first CubeSats to reach orbit. These two CubeSats are still regularly performing their mission, taking and sending us beautiful photos of the earth.
