GE 1A is an American geosynchronous communications spacecraft that was launched by a Proton-K rocket from Baikonur at 22:00 UT. The 3.9 ton satellite provides direct-to-home voice, video and data transmission in India, China and Philippines through its 24 C-band and 24 Ku-band transponders.
