FAISAT 2V is an American (civilian or military) communications spacecraft that was launched by a Cosmos-3M rocket from Plesetsk on 23 September 1997 at 16:44 UT (along with COSMOS 2346). Its main mission is to look for and warn of natural disasters on land and sea and aid rescue efforts. It is a precursor to a joint venture between Final Analysis, Inc and Polyot Design Bureau of Russia to launch a constellation of 36 commercial communications satellites. Initial orbital parameters were period 104.4 min, apogee 1,012 km, perigee 956 km, and inclination 82.9 deg.
