RCA-SATCOM 5 was the sixth in a series of RCA-GLOBCOM commercial communications satellites, launched into a geosynchronous orbit from Cape Canaveral. The Delta rocket performed nominally, placing the spacecraft and its apogee boost motor (ABM) into the desired transfer orbit that permitted the propulsion systems to meet the mission's objectives.
