Anticipate and preclude objections that might come up in the negotiation.
The two standard objections you’re going to hear when you ask for an increase in pay:
- The company isn’t doing well enough to afford the increase in pay.
- Your performance isn’t good enough to get an increase in pay.
You might start out with a conversation about how great it is that the company is doing so well and things are happening. Then talk about your performance: a review of the goals that you set a year ago and how you’ve accomplished those goals and so on.
