That Wouldn't Stop You Close

The interviewer may come up with a number of objections during the interview. Don't try to satisfy every objection, instead make the employer focus on hiring you despite them. Their objections may sound like absolutes, but they are probably just objectives. Your strategy should be to respond to objections in a way that will make the interviewer think to himself/herself it shouldn't stop him/her from hiring you.

Example:

The Interviewer may say: “You don't have much experience leading regional product development teams.”

You say: “That's correct, but I guess that wouldn't stop you from hiring me. I have successfully led various projects involving multiple teams, I have the skills to adapt to the challenges of handling teams in multiple locations and markets.”

He may well say: “Well I guess not, you have the functional experience and you seem to have the leadership skills necessary to do a good job in this position.”

The Interviewer may say: “We expect to hire someone with a Master's Degree.”

You say: “But that wouldn't stop you from hiring me if you were convinced I could do a great job, would it?” If you look at the “on the job” experience I have had, you will find that it is equivalent to an MBA education.”
