Make the employer realize what a dumb mistake he is making when they are reluctant to hire you by telling them a story about someone else who made a dumb mistake when they were in the same situation.
Example:
You’re applying for a job that involves you relocating and the employer is reluctant to pay your moving expenses.
You say: “I understand exactly how you feel about moving expenses. It is a big investment and you would probably feel more comfortable if you could secure a long term commitment so I propose we do the following: If I don’t stay for a year I’ll reimburse the company for the relocation expenses. Don’t let this stop you from hiring me if you think I’m the right person for the job. I remember at my previous company, our CFO was faced with a similar dilemma. He didn’t hire a Treasury Manager with top potential because he was concerned about the moving expenses. Turns out the cost of finding another candidate with the same fit and credentials ended up costing the company far more.”
