Ask the employer to choose between one of two alternatives that are acceptable to you. When you ask people to choose between one of two alternatives, they will usually pick one of the two. Very seldom will they select the third option: that neither of the two choices is acceptable.
Example:
- You might say, “Of the two openings that you have, which do you think I’d be better suited for?”
- Or, “Would you like me to start right away, or would the first of the month be better?”
- Or, “Do you want me to take employee orientation this Monday or the following week?”
- Or, “Would Monday or Tuesday be the best day for a follow up interview?"
