In addition to the usual browser features, iCab Mobile also offers many special features:
- Profiles
- Profiles allow several people to use the browser (e.g. a family on a family iPad) but each person still has their own private area in the app that no one else has access to, their own bookmarks, settings, downloads, etc.
Profiles are also suitable if you want to keep professional and private browsing sessions separate.
- Windows
- On the iPad, iCab Mobile can also open any number of windows, which can then be managed via the split-screen mode, stage manager or the iPad's window menu.
As of iOS 17, you can even log in to multiple profiles in multiple window without them affecting each other (i.e. you can log in to different windows on the same website with different accounts - this is not possible before iOS 17)
- Tabs
- Any number of tabs can be opened, which can be organized and saved in groups. Tabs can be locked to prevent accidental closing or overwriting. Using the iOS handoff feature, the current tabs can also be transferred to other devices to continue your work on that device
- Filters
- A built-in filter manager allows you to easily install popular filter lists (AdbBlock Plus-, uBlock-, Easylist-compatible) to block e.g. advertising and tracking, but you can also create your own filters manually and share them with others
- Downloads Manager
- he Downloads Manager is used to download and organize files from websites. The files can be organized in folders, they can be highlighted/categorized by color, renamed, etc. ZIP archives can be created and also unpacked. Self-defined rules also allow you to automatically move downloads into folders, export them to Dropbox or WebDAV, save images to the album and much more.
- Bookmarks
- The bookmarks also offer “smart folders”, which are filled according to self-defined rules. For example, you can create folders that only contain new bookmarks from the last 2 weeks or only bookmarks on specific topics. These folders are filled and updated automatically.
The quickstarter is a special type of bookmarks that is displayed directly in newly created tabs as large icons, and can therefore be opened very quickly.
- Web Sites
- The app allows you to configure the UserAgent (Browser ID). This can be used, for example, to request “desktop” versions of many websites on mobile devices, or to satisfy websites that claim to only work with certain other browsers. In iCab Mobile, this can also be set on a site-specific basis.
Using self-defined style sheets and JavaScript code, 'pro' users can also manipulate websites as they wish. URLs can be redefined, e.g. to filter out tracking parameters or redirect to a special website version.
- Widgets
- Widgets allow direct access to bookmarks or important browser functions directly from the home screen.
- Configuration
- The app can be customized in many areas to suit your own needs. The address and browser bars can be placed at the top, bottom or both sides of the screen, also depending on the screen size. If desired, the bars can be hidden or shown when scrolling.
All browser toolbars, context menu, action menu etc. can be freely configured, i.e. functions that are not required can be removed, important functions can be moved to the top and a large selection of functions can be kept clearly arranged via submenus. All functions can also be called up using freely definable shortcuts via a Bluetooth keyboard, multi-touch gestures can be assigned to functions, etc.
The app helps when entering text by offering additional keys depending on the context, which can be used to enter important texts much faster. The additional keys can also be freely configured for the address field.
