TE & SUBCHRONIC: These studies consistently indicate that the liver is the key target organ affected by OBDPO.The effects observed include increases in liver weight and liver enlargement, cellular microscopic changes, scattered incidence of hyperplastic nodules during the withdrawal period (8 weeks and 6 months) and induction of a range of liver enzymes. Following oral administration, thyroid gland effects are observed including increases in thyroid weight and histopathological changes suggesting an increase in thyroid gland stimulation, depletion of T4, decrease of serum T3, increased TSH level via an inductionof the hepatic enzymes. alterations in thyroid homeostasis by organochlorine compounds have been documented for many species, including humans.
