NO contact with water, oxidants and acid(s). NO water or foam. In case of fire in the surroundings: powder, carbon dioxide. Explosion In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water. Exposure AVOID ALL CONTACT!  •Inhalation Cough. Headache. Sore throat. Laboured breathing. Tremor. Diarrhoea. Convulsions. Vomiting. Local exhaust or breathing protection. Refer for medical attention. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. No mouth-to-mouth artificial respiration.  •Skin Redness. Pain. Protective clothing. Protective gloves. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.  •Eyes Redness. Pain. Safety goggles, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.  •Ingestion (See Inhalation). Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Refer for medical attention. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). No mouth-to-mouth artificial respiration. Spillage Disposal Storage Packaging & Labelling Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Sweep spilled substance into containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Physical Dangers: Chemical Dangers: Reacts violently with acids , water or moist air to produce phosphine (ICSC 0694), causing fire andtoxic hazard. Reacts violently with strong oxidants causing fire and explosion hazard. Occupational Exposure Limits: TLV not established. Routes of Exposure: The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and by ingestion. Inhalation Risk: A very toxic concentration of airborne particles can be reached quickly when dispersed, especially if powdered. Effects of Short-Term Exposure: The substance is irritating to the eyes , the skin and the respiratory tract . Inhalation of phosphine liberated from calcium phosphide may cause lung oedema (see Notes). The substance may cause effects on the gastrointestinal tract , central nervous system , liver , kidneys and cardiovascular system , resulting in impaired functions and respiratory failure . Exposure may result in death. N O T E S Photophor is a trade name. Environmental effects from the substance have not been investigated adequately. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential.
