GymGoal provides presets for two styles: the traditional style and HIT. These presets are applied to the number of sets and reps.
Traditional approach is to choose the number of sets and reps that are the best for your goal. The major goals are Strength, Power, Hypertrophy (Size) and Endurance.
High Intensity Training (HIT) is a form of training for maximum muscle size. The fundamental principles of HIT are that exercise should be brief, infrequent, and intense. Typical HIT programs comprise a tri-weekly, single-set per exercise, full-body workout.
There are a large number of skeptics who find HIT controversial. For example, traditionally “high intensity” means training with a weight that one can lift only 1-3 times, but a typical HIT workout uses a weight that can be lifted 8-12 times. Some HIT advocates have developed modified HIT-based routines that tend to produce more consistent results for recreational bodybuilders and athletes of average genetic potential.
