The library is where you store all your audio documents.
It can contain both files and folders. It handles both soundfiles and standard MIDI files, as well as TXT files and ZIP archives.
Tap a folder to enter it, or a file to open it.
Tap the small play button for a quick preview of a soundfile.
If LOOP is enabled, also the preview player will loop. If LOOP is not enabled, the next file in the Library will play after the current one finished.
Scroll up to reveal the search bar. Start entering text to search. The Library list will now display search results for items whose name matches the text.
Tap the sort header at the top of the library to cycle between sorting by name, date or size.
Long-press an item to show the context menu:
To delete an item, swipe it and press the delete button. See below about Emptying the Trash.
Tap the checkbox button in the upper right to enter selection mode, where you can select one or more items.
Tap the trash button to delete all selected items. Deleted files will go into a special Trash folder, to avoid accidental deleting of files. Delete the files from Trash to really delete them.
Tap the move button to move all selected items. You will be asked to choose the destination folder.
Tap the dropbox button to upload selected items to your Dropbox. You will be asked to choose destination folder.
To import files & folders from Dropbox, see Dropbox import.
Select any number of files for bulk AudioCopy. All selected files will be copied in one go to the Retronyms AudioCopy 3 Pasteboard.
Deleted files will go into a special Trash folder, to avoid accidental deleting of files. Delete the files from Trash to really delete them.
To empty the trash by deleting everything in the Trash folder:
Tap the microphone button to show the recorder.
In the sound recorder, tap Record to start recording, tap again to stop. When done, the new recording will be automatically opened.
Tap the Settings button to change the recorder settings: format, mono/stereo, sample rate, normalization.
AudioShare can record from hardware input (mic/line) and other Inter-App Audio apps as well as Audiobus when connected in the Audiobus output slot.
AudioShare can function as an Inter-App Audio host. It consists of a channel strip with 4 slots.
Tap the (+) button to choose a node for the slot. Tap a nodes icon to switch to the node app.
The first slot normally contains the main hardware input, or Audiobus if connected, but can also contain any Inter-App Audio compatible Generator or Instrument app.
The remaining three slots can host any Inter-App Audio compatible Effect apps.
The output of the first slot goes into the input of the next, and so on.
The channel strip also has a level fader and a Monitor button. Turn the monitor ON to hear the result of the Inter-App Audio chain.
For a much more powerful recorder and mixer, check out the app AUM!
Additionally, the first slot can hold the internal File Player, allowing the effect slots to process the file in real-time.
In this setup, new buttons appear inside the Recorder: The Play button will preview the process, REC will start playback and recording at the same time.
Tap the paste button to paste audio copied from other apps. Choose between General pasteboard and AudioCopy2.
Tap the import button to import external items into the library.
Choose "Dropbox" to import files and folders from your Dropbox.
You will be asked to give AudioShare permission to access your Dropbox, if you haven't done this already.
Then you will be presented with the files and folders of your Dropbox. Tap the checkbox button in the navigation bar to start selecting files and folders to import. Folders are imported recursively. You can also start selecting directly by tapping a file.
Press the Import button to start downloading the selected items into your current folder.
To unlink the dropbox account, tap the dropbox account name header and choose Yes. After unlinking, you can link again with the same or another account.
To export items to Dropbox, see Dropbox export in Library.
Choose "Music Library" to import songs from your music library.
A media picker will be presented. Select the song you want to import into the current folder.
Choose "Document Picker" to show a Document Picker where you can import files from iOS 8 Document providers, for example iCloud Drive or any third-party document picker app extension.
AudioShare also includes its own Document Picker extension so that other apps can access the AudioShare library directly.
Tap the add button and choose "Add Folder". Folders can have subfolders.
Tap the add button and choose "New notes". When a text file is opened, the view that normally shows the waveform now instead shows the text contents of the file. Tap it to edit.
In many apps, you can choose to open a file in any other app that supports that kind of files. For example, if you received a soundfile as an attachment in Mail, tap-and-hold the attachment and choose to open it in AudioShare.
Some apps also have a dedicated "Export to AudioShare" button that will transfer a soundfile directly to AudioShare with minimal effort.
Tap the wifi button to show the "WiFi Drive" control panel. Toggle the switch to enable the built-in web server. This gives easy access to the library for transferring files via any web browser on the local network, for example on your desktop computer.
The library contains a special folder named iTunes File Sharing, which you can access from a connected computer to transfer items to and from AudioShare.
Desktop applications like iFunBox will let you transfer multiple files and folders, even inside subfolders of the library.
NOTE: Due to technical reasons, this folder or any of its subfolders are not available in the AudioShare Document Picker extension.
Opening a file▲
Tap a soundfile or midifile in the Library to open it.
You can then look at the waveform, play the file, trim, convert or normalize it, export to cloud services, send by email, audioCopy, and open the file in another app.
Tap the Play button to start playing. Tap the waveform to jump to any position in the file.
Tap the Rewind button to rewind to the start of the file.
Tap the LOOP toggle to enable or disable looping.
The old built-in SoundCloud integration has been removed. To upload a track to soundcloud, follow these instructions:
Tap the mail button to send the file as an attachment of an email.
Tap the copy button to copy the file to the pasteboard. You will be asked to choose the General Pasteboard or Retronyms AudioCopy 3.
Different apps have different support for these standards. AudioCopy requires that you also install the Retronyms AudioCopy app. It supports only 16-bit 44.1kHz linear PCM files.
General pasteboard supports any filetype and format, including standard MIDI files.
After copying, you can paste the audio into any other app that supports AudioPaste.
Tap the open-in button to open the file in another app. You will be presented with a menu of apps that supports opening soundfiles.
Tools▲
After opening a soundfile, tap the Tools button to access the available tools for this soundfile.
Drag the handles to select the region to be trimmed.
Tap the play-button to preview. Looping works here too!
When done, tap the Save button to trim and save the region as a new file.
Grab a trim handle and hold it still to automatically zoom in to a small area around the trim point. When zoomed in, move the handle to the desired location, and release it to zoom back.
Adjust the fade in/out time by dragging the values. Tap the arrows for 1 millisecond adjustments. Set to zero for no fade.
The fade times defaults to 5 ms to avoid clicks at the trim points.
You can make adjustment in incremental steps of 1, 10 or 100 milliseconds by tapping the adjustment buttons. You can use these even while playing, to find the region for that perfect loop.
When the snap-to-beat toggle is active, dragging the handles will snap them to the nearest beat according to the given tempo.
Adjust the tempo by dragging it horizontally or tapping the arrows for fine-tuning.
The trim region end will snap relative to the region start, so you can adjust the start freely with snap off, and turn it on while dragging the end-handle to get perfect beat-aligned lengths.
The normalize tool normalizes the file to +0dB, to get the maximum volume possible without clipping. The normalized audio is saved as a new file.
Use this tool to convert any supported soundfile to WAV, AIFF, CAF, or M4A in AAC or lossless ALAC. Set the desired sample rate and number of channels. For stereo to mono, you can also choose to either mix the channels or extract a single channel. The converted audio is saved as a new file.
For M4A, you can decide the target bitrate. Note that this is the total bitrate for both stereo channels. If the destination file is mono, the actual bitrate will be halved. For sample rates 22k and below, the bitrate will be clipped to a lower value.
Audiobus▲
This app can record and play live audio from and to other Audiobus-compatible apps!
When AudioShare is connected in the Audiobus output slot, it can record the live audio from the other connected apps.
When AudioShare is connected in the Audiobus input slot, it will act as a soundsource for other connected apps.
You can even use AudioShare in both slots at the same time, playing a file and recording it back into AudioShare. Use this to play a file through other apps for external processing, or mix AudioShare with other apps for sound-on-sound technique.
See audiob.us for more information about Audiobus.
