If the council votes yes, every demolition permit becomes a formality.
The ordinance up for vote on March 14 changes the zoning classification of Block 14 from R-3 (residential) to MX-2 (mixed-use, no height limit). The change requires only a simple majority of the seven-member council.
Once rezoned, every demolition permit becomes a ministerial decision — meaning the planning office must issue it, with no public hearing required. There is no appeal process.
Four councilmembers are currently on the fence. Two need our pressure. If even one switches their vote to no, the ordinance is defeated and a public review process is triggered, buying us 18 months.

Dear Councilmember [NAME],[DATE]
My name is [YOUR NAME] and I have lived at [YOUR ADDRESS] for [YEARS] years. I am writing today to ask you to vote NO on the Block 14 rezoning ordinance on March 14.
The proposed ordinance would convert sixty-four homes, two community gardens, and a public library into luxury condominiums. The change cannot be appealed. The damage cannot be undone.
As your constituent, I am asking you to listen to the people who live here.
Sincerely,[SIGNATURE]

ABOUT USHOW THIS STARTED21 / 24
★ HOW THIS STARTED
It started with a flyer on a corner library door.
In November, Eva Halász taped a single sheet of A4 to the Corner Library door. Twelve people came to the first meeting in her kitchen. Today the coalition has fourteen volunteer captains, 140 endorsing organizations, and 8,412 signatures. It still meets every Tuesday in that same kitchen.
